How to write articles and get in the top 3 on Google, Bing, Yandex and vc.ru

Articles about promoting the site with articles quickly became popular and took third place in the Yandex search results in two days. In four days, he took second place in the best article of the year in the SEO category on vc.ru. Within seven days, the article reached the second line of Google.

I want to share my algorithm for writing articles, maybe it will help strengthen your text on websites or blogs.

1. Destination setting.

Like any project, article writing should start with a purpose. Why do we even write? Maybe one, maybe several goals. At least we fix the main one first, then we can decompose it into tasks or add secondary goals.

Example:

  • Write a blog post that will show me as an expert in car selection.
  • Write articles on the site, the purpose of which is to warm up the audience and go to the registration page in the service.

2. Site selection for placement

If we publish not on our site, then the main parameters when choosing a site are:

  • presence of the target audience.
  • good traffic.

You can choose a platform with a target audience by entering your topic in Yandex:

  • Etc.

For article promotion and link building, we use other parameters, but this is not the topic of this article:

I chose vc.ru for publication for two reasons:

I have subscribed to the vc.ru platform since I read an interesting case about the development of a bag manufacturing company. In it, the author reveals the actions and their results step by step. When I get an assignment to develop a wholesale company, I regularly refer to this article.

3. Article topic

This is not yet the title of the article, but only the general theme of the publication, which we will uncover and absorb from all sides to create in-depth and interesting material.

Organize brainstorming, answer questions:

“What is the name of the article to promote it?”

I recommend choosing a mid-frequency or low-frequency query with an impression count from 500 to 3000. To achieve a high-frequency query, you need a large number of articles and a number of other optimization methods.

We choose phrases in which there are questions about topics of interest or problems.

I didn't even consider generic phrases like "SEO website promotion", because I understand that the competition for them is fierce, and the title says everything and nothing at the same time.

4. Competition Rating

We check the demand match for competition and the right frequency in the Mutagen service.

It is better to choose a topic with a competition score of up to 5. This means that it is quite easy to show good articles with such a query.

I choose between options. Competition:

  • Promotion of young sites - 24.
  • Corporate website promotion — 22.
A score of 16 indicates fairly high competition, but with good material on a good site, I think we can break through. Let's take a chance.

The total frequency of requests is 767 per month, the exact one is 425. Excellent performance.
I predict that by staying in the top three, this article can garner at least 100 visitors per month, and taking the additional requests into account, I think it will reach 200.

This is from one article. And if there are 20 such articles on the site? So it is possible to collect decent traffic to the site!

5. Portrait of a reader

We write not for directors, not for magazine editors, and not for search engines. We write so that athletes, reading from smartphones about protein nutrition options, and accountants behind a monitor screen, read about payroll at 1C, understand that our text is written especially for them, and know what to do next.

On large projects, it is very important to create a detailed portrait that includes the character traits, daily tasks and problems a person solves, what skills, values, beliefs and other characteristics he has.

For one article, it's worth answering at least a few questions:
  • What do we write to?
  • What is the purpose of the article?
  • What action do we want the reader to take?
  • What do readers need to know to take action?

Or what information can we provide to improve his life?

Who attracted me from the audience so that we were on the same wavelength with him:

6. Article draft

Here is the process of the kitchen itself.

  2.  I write down questions that may arise when the topic is presented and will be of interest to the reader while reading.
  3.  I open several sites on request and write the article structure (subtitles).

Content collection

I collect all content in one file:
  • Day and night we write down ideas and thoughts. I find it convenient to catch it in Google Docs. Ideas come suddenly, and it's important to catch them, no matter where you are: at home at your computer, with your laptop at work, or on the road with your phone.
  • We are preparing concrete facts and figures. We collect information from various sources. I prepare data from analytics system and other results.
  • Prepare images, screenshots. Photos must be real, screenshots must contain what is said in the text.
People love stories based on true events.

Therefore, I wrapped useful instructions in a case. Without examples, another instructive article in the format "You have to do it like this" raises questions. And who are you that I can trust you? That's all theory.

7. Edit Article

At this stage, we transfer blocks of text, form a logical structure, add titles, lists, highlight the main thing. Our goal is beautifully designed articles in a text editor.

Article structure

On the topic of building structures, I love the book by renowned consulting firm McKinsey & Company, Barbara Minto, “The Minto Pyramid Principles. Golden Rules for Thinking, Business Writing, and Speaking.

It used to be called Harvard's Golden Rule.

Immediately tell about the main result that the reader will receive from reading the article. In a fashionable way, this is called the main paragraph.

Here I do not use exaggeration, advertising slogans and other things. If at first we declare super results, and the reader, having spent 15 minutes of his time, does not receive what was promised, then angry comments, dislikes and other joys are given to you.

Don't steal readers' time!

How do we read articles? Most often, we click on the title, if it is of interest, and scan in fast mode. If an article is without a single subtitle, without highlighting main thoughts, without lists, without images, then you want to close such articles as quickly as possible.

Footcloth text is read only by the most loyal customers. If there is no specific motivation to read, then the average user will close a heavy text brick in a few seconds. Even with useful material.

We build a semantic structure. My article is a case of:

Text block

Each logical block of text is separated by a subheading. The user can start reading from any paragraph, stopping at the title that interests him. Therefore, it is important that each block of text is complete.

However there are times that may be new to the reader, so the content of the block should be clear from the title.

On one project, the author was convinced that the article did not need to be edited. The subtitles are:

Such a subtitle does not tell the reader anything, except perhaps about the creativity of the author.

Therefore, when writing articles in Word, Google Docs or any other text editor, you should get a clear document structure, by which we can understand what the article is about.

8. Working with headers

10. How to write articles on the site

When posting on the site, you will have to edit the text again, because many CMSs don't recognize or misrecognize styles copied from Word or other text editors (headings, highlights, quotes)

If this is your site, choose an easy-to-read font size and style. See what sites are popular in your area.

  • Highlight your headings with tags H1, H2, H3, and so on. H1 should only be one per page. If there is no heading, paragraphs can be separated by blank lines or punctuation marks.
  • Highlight the main thing and remember the golden rule: What can be shown, show. Better to see once than read a hundred times. One photo can replace an entire paragraph. At the same time, there is more trust in such information. And we write for people.
  • Upload a picture. It's better to compress it before downloading. Photo titles are best done in Latin. When adding to your site, you must register an Alt tag.
  • Add a caption under the photo or screenshot. this will make it easier to understand what's in the photo and improve indexing performance.
  • Add links to other articles or pages on the site. This will improve the performance of this article and the article you link to.
When publishing on your site, additionally:

Even for sharp questions and open negativity, I try to answer as detailed as possible. This achieves two goals:

  • We add relevant additional content to articles.
Alhamdulillah, under my article there are more good comments and clarifying questions than negative ones.

vc.ru. On the vc.ru site, the article took second place among popular articles in the SEO category in four days.

Google. I don't really understand American algorithms, but when I went to a search engine a week later, I found myself on the first page under the video block. The article occupies not one, but two lines at once.

A week later, the article was already in second place on Google for the query “website promotion with articles”.

With a Russian search engine, the plot is more dramatic.

Three days later, he even indicated in the issue the publication date of the article.

When the article was on the first page of "Yandex" in the top 3, I felt a revival, as in childhood, when I saw my name in the top three winners of the results protocol in the orienteering competition.

However, a week later, Yandex dumped my article and I couldn't find it even on the fifth page. I feel as if I was disqualified after checking the correct scores on the course.

Ready, ready, already feeling the taste of victory - and then such a turn. (This place should be my sad photo or sad movie frame.)

Anyway, I wiped the tears from my unshaven cheeks, I decided not to get depressed, this is just one article ...

But for a long time I didn't think about how the site owners felt, whose "SEO-active" sites were moved by grayscale methods and went under the Yandex and Google filters? It's been a year of disqualification due to doping or injury, after that a long recovery and a set of sports uniforms.
